The Second HUMAN IN LOVE Youth Software Volunteer Group “Learning can benefit me and others too!”

By 2016년 11월 20일August 19th, 2024No Comments

Sharing one’s favorite knowledge can benefit others!
This is what our friends from HUMAN IN LOVE Youth Software Volunteer Group (Software Volunteer Group) believe.

[The members of the second Software Volunteer Group are teaching software programs for children living with little access to learn coding in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.]

The members of the Software Volunteer Group take coding classes for 10 weeks and make arrange a curriculum on their own. With the curriculum, they teach kids who have little access to learn coding at regional children centers.

There are adult teachers who sometimes give guidance to Software Volunteer Group members, but these members play an active role in providing voluntary training as they are the ones who teach children.

Software Volunteer Group is using Scratch, a coding education program developed in MIT. With Scratch, you don’t have to input difficult coding language and all you have to do is just drag and drop with the mouse. So, even children and non-experts can easily learn coding just like they play with Lego.

At first, I was interested in software but didn’t know what to do. As I was working in a volunteer group, I could learn how to shape my dreams and do what I needed to accomplish my dreams. It was good to get inspired by my mentees, and I’m going to study harder since I know how to do coding.

I keep checking on what I need to improve and study more.

10-year-old Minhee (false name) told me that she wants to make a game where a person climbs a mountain and meets an animal, rolls down and meets another animal and rolls down again. I’m going to find a way to make it easily by the next class. I feel so excited and responsible.

All of the Software Volunteering Group members say that after teaching children, they feel even more responsible and study harder than when they learned coding. They also feel their coding teachers’ advice is more precious than ever.
