Hello, I am Chief Manager of HUMAN IN LOVE Rwanda Branch, Ji-Hee OH.
Today, I would like to tell you about Scholarship Award Ceremony which took place on April 3rd. It was a small but very meaningful event.

[ Preparing for scholarship award ceremony ]

On the way to attend the ceremony, I stopped by at the District Office and had a short meeting with the Deputy Mayor. The mayor couldn’t attend the ceremony due to his busy schedule but he definitely wanted to join us next time. Also, he recommended a good student who needs financial support. I found that the student he recommended was already selected as a scholarship student fortunately.

When we host an event in Rwanda, the schedule is often delayed 1~2 hours. However, the Scholarship Award Ceremony started right on time at 11 A.M. Many officials from Korean NGOs were very impressed by this. Also, many people including public officials from each Cell of Sector and principals of the schools came to congratulate the recipients. I was very glad to see that many people were interested in HUMAN IN LOVE Rwanda Branch and the Branch is cooperating well with local people of Rwanda.

The ceremony started with the Opening Speech of the Head of Sector, followed by the performance, the presentation delivered by a Rwandan official of Education Department about cooperation and business plan between HUMAN IN LOVE Rwanda Branch and Rwandan organizations, my speech, scholarship award presentation, the speech of the official of Education Department, and the luncheon.

After the ceremony, we had a working level discussion about the scholarship program with Rwandan public officials and leaders, Korean NGOs officials during the luncheon. It was a small event but it meant a lot to us as we witnessed how thankful the recipients were. I would like to share a part of the speech I delivered on that day.

After the scholarship award presentation, a recipient delivered a speech to express gratitude on behalf of all the recipients. After the speech, all recipients and their families spontaneously knelt down and said “thank you” to us. I was very glad that the scholarships were given to those who really need them.

“I am very happy today because we are here and able to present scholarships to the students. HUMAN IN LOVE Scholarship Program supports students so that they can continue to study and realize their dreams. As we all know, many Rwandan students stop going to school due to poverty and other issues. However, we also know that all students have the right to education and have dreams for their future. Currently, we have 30 students and I know that they will contribute greatly to the development of Rwanda and peace and stability of the world. If the recipients continue to have good grades in school, HUMAN IN LOVE will support them through college. Have a dream. You can achieve it! ”

[ With HUMAN IN LOVE Scholarship Students ]

Yes! We believe in them! All students must have the right to study and find their path. And HUMAN IN LOVE Rwanda Branch supports students’ dreams. We hope 30 bright students here today will become a leader for their region and contribute to the development of Rwanda one day.
