HUMAN IN LOVE has been running a scholarship program for children from poor families at Rweru sector in Rwanda. As part of a volunteering program, HIL scholarship students were gathered this year to repair the houses of Deoneste and Richard during a vacation.

In Rwanda, people make walls with a mixture of mud and cow manure, and put a roof on the top to build a house. After the 1994 Rwandan genocide, people were scared and sealed all the windows and doors with mud.
After 24 years, even though the country was stabilized, rural areas are still underdeveloped and many houses there still have their windows and doors closed.

So every time when it’s rainy season or raining, people get hurt from a broken wall; or get various diseases in a house with no ventilation. Just cementing a wall and making a door and windows can change their lives significantly.

We can sleep well without worries about collapse or robbery.
Deoneste is living with his parents and seven younger siblings. He said he didn’t spend much time inside of his house because it was very stuffy inside and he was worried if the house collapses on a stormy day.
HIL scholarship students are gathered at Deoneste’s house on the day HIL promised to repair his house. Students were moving water, mixing cement and helping constructors just like they are repairing their own house.

Another child that HIL decided to repair his house is living under harsh conditions too. Richard said he thought he could die in a collapsing house every time he fell asleep.

I couldn’t imagine myself living in a house with metal windows and door.

Now I’m so happy that I can live in a safe and clean house without worries about collapse or robbery.

Mr. Bobtiste said he is so frustrated that he doesn’t know how to return this favor and that he really wants to join the next house repair volunteer program. He expressed his sincere gratitude, wishing for the best of Korean donors and the students who helped repair his house.

Thank you all for showing us your warm heart and sincere support.
We know many of you are not familiar with Rwanda, so we always thank you for listening to the story of Rwandan children and giving unwavering support. Especially this year, 624 people made online donation to pay for construction materials and constructor fees. Also thanks to Happybean which provided matching donation, we could successfully repair their houses. Once again, thanks a lot.
