HUMAN IN LOVE Emergency Rescue Team had winter (underwater diving) training at Four Plaza diving pool in Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi Province from December 23 to 24 2017, HIL Emergency Rescue Team has been conducting underwater diving training in order to enhance diving skills and rescue people from rivers and oceans in an effective and swift way.

Before the training, Gye-yeol Yu, the chief of HIL Emergency Rescue Team, informed safety guidelines, what the training is about and what it aims for while Seong-woon Kim who is PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) gave a lecture about diving skills.

HIL Emergency Rescue Team engages in activities like saving people, emergency relief and recovery, and helps disaster victims get back to normal life. In 2014, our team installed ropes in the water to make a path where divers could go into the sunken Sewol ferry and injected oxygen. In Han River, the team has been annually collecting waste which pollutes the water and endangers water safety. This training was also joined by undergraduate students majoring in emergency rescue. To get scuba diving certificate, they learned basic skills like how to use diving equipment, balance their body and adjust breathing to withstand water pressure.

Unlike rescue activities on the ground, underwater search and recovery should be done by professionals because their psychological status significantly influences their rescue and recovery activities. We will make much efforts to make sure our emergency rescue team can enhance their rescue skills.

Training went well thanks to our undergraduate members. As a member of HIL Emergency Rescue Team, I feel proud of myself since I could play a role in helping disaster relief activities in our society.”

I thought scuba diving would be very difficult. But thanks to HIL Emergency Rescue Team members and instructor, I could learn many skills easily and safely.”
