Teenagers interested in software are united to broaden their knowledge and help kids who don’t have much chance to learn software. Those teenagers belong to the HIL Youth Software Volunteer Group and they visited HE childcare center on June 19.

Children are excited learning software programming.
It’s really intriguing to see children concentrating on learning how to make a game because it’s rare to see children actually making games and enjoying it. Although there were people talking with teachers, one volunteer and a middle school student were not bothered at all and kept making a game.

What were they making? I saw a spaceship that looks like the one in Star Wars floating with the background music like a theme song of the film Interstellar. I was surprised that it was a little student who designed this game and even put the background music and images.Another student made a program that helps learning English. When you press a keyboard, a word and picture containing the alphabet appear. I asked the kid why he made this program and he answered it was because he didn’t like studying English and that he thought this program will help him study English more easily.Children were excited reflecting their ideas in a software program, and the results were astonishing.

People might think my mentee seems kind of clueless compared to his peers, but to me, his outcome is interesting and unique. What he made makes mentors and mentees here laugh.”

My mentee is a lower elementary school girl. At first, I was trying to teach what I know but she seemed like she doesn’t understand. After showing her a mission that could interest her and then teaching things related to that mission, I could feel she got more interested.”

We are united with the interest and passion for software.

I’m very interested in Internet of Things (IoT). My parents are interested in self-development and they like to spend their time on something professional. Growing up in this family, I came to be interested in IoT. If home appliances could do laundry, cleaning or make a meal on their own, people could spend more time on self-development.”

I want to be professional in information security. These days, D-dos attacks and hacking attacks against home CCTV or hotel guest information are serious issues. I want to become a white hacker and tackle these issues.”

[Seoung-je Park, a member of the third HIL Youth Software Voluntary Group]

All of the volunteers we met today have a dream to be a software professional. We’d like you to give continued support to HIL Youth Software Voluntary Group members who are doing their best to achieve their dreams and share their time and talent.
