After discussing with government officials and villagers, the HUMAN IN LOVE-IsraAID emergency rescue team decided to conduct the second emergency relief operation in Baruwa village. Since Baruwa village is farther than Banskharka village from Kathmandu, the team members decided to leave early in the morning and finished packing and preparation on February 13, a day before they conduct the operation. At 6:30 am on February 14 2016, the team left IsraAID’s office in Nepal to deliver winter kits to 201 children living in Baruwa village. After about three hours, we arrived at Melamchi village. We were so relieved to safely arrive and took a break at Melamchivillage, which is closest to Baruwa village.

[ So many houses were not repaired even though 10 months have passed since the earthquake.]

But we couldn’t stay in Melamchi village for long if we were to conduct the emergency relief operation as we planned because Baruwa village was over 30km away from Melamchi village and the road was unpaved. After a short break, we took the truck again.Loaded with emergency relief supplies, our truck was driving around 6km on a narrow, unpaved road, and we found a car getting in our way. The car stopped because the engine was broken. It seemed serious so we decided to go back to Melamchi village and find another way to go to Baruwa village.

On our way back to Melamchi village, something unexpected happened. Something was wrong with the car driving right in front of our truck, so the car suddenly stopped. The road was so narrow that only one car barely could drive on it. Without the car in front of us moving, we couldn’t pass it. We tried hard to move the car, but it didn’t move an inch. Soon, one of our rescue members took out a shovel from the truck and started to make another road. After a long struggle, our truck could pass the car on a new road that we made. The HUMAN IN LOVE emergency rescue team decided to go back to Melamch village and find another way to Barwa village, and headed to one of the three schools waiting for our emergency relief items. We were relieved that everything went well, but soon after, we faced another problem. Before ten minutes to get to the first school, we found some sand poured from a mountain and we couldn’t move forward anymore. (We later found out there was an earthquake in the morning and the sand blocked the road because of the aftershocks.)

Since we couldn’t go further because the road was blocked, we contacted the principals of the schools that we planned to deliver emergency relief items, and asked if they could come to a nearby park with kids.

After a while, the two principals and students arrived at a nearby park, holding their hands together. Also the principal and one teacher of the other school came to the park after an hour and a half driving. Only two teachers could come because the park was so far, but we were so moved and surprised to see them willing to go all the way to the park, out of worries about the kids who would be shivering with the cold.

In the mean time, as part of the third emergency relief operation on February 21, the HUMAN IN LOVE-IsraAID emergency rescue team distributed winter kits to additional 330 children living in a high altitude of Sindhupalchowk District without heating equipment or winter supplies so that they can stay warm without any fear of death.

It was most impressive to see the residents of each local community were willing to take their part in and helped distribute winter supplies to the children. We could see the light of hope from the residents who were actively making efforts to resolve the problem facing their community.

[Thanks to the residents, we could distribute emergency relief items.]

Please keep supporting us to help child victims of the Nepal earthquake. Thank you!

[We deeply appreciate our supporters for sending emergency relief kits.]
