Rweru is a place of the returnees who fled from the Rwandan genocide, and HUMAN IN LOVE has been conducting education projects in this sector. Due to hunger, poverty and no experience of getting education, they have little understanding of why people need education, and get their kids to go to work, not go to school. This is why as much as 29% of children are working in Rwanda. As part of a project to increase children’s participation in education, HUMAN IN LOVE has been running “Adult Literacy Class” from 2017.

Parents Who Realized the Effects of Education Are Now Sincerely Supporting Their Children’s Education
Residents who participated in Adult Literacy Class could actually feel the effects of education in their daily lives: they can read, do the math, go to bank and save money, and read the bill to get properly paid. Now that they have a different mindset about education, they are sincerely supporting their children’s education.

240 Adult Students Learned Writing and Math
From May 2018 to January 2019, HUMAN IN LOVE has been running 14 literacy classes for 240 students during nine months. 177 students (which is 74% of all) passed an exam which was jointly prepared by the Education Ministry and HIL Adult Literacy Class. Congratulations!

There are around 2,000 illiterate adults in Rweru sector
In Rweru sector, there are around 2,000 illiterate adults and also children who lack an opportunity to learn. HUMAN IN LOVE will continue to run Adult Literacy Class to lay a foundation for residents to increase income sources and improve the awareness on education so that more children can get education.
