Gyeonggi-do ODA – Building More Facilities at Rwiminazi Primary School “We Build the Hope of Rwanda”

By 2017년 09월 25일August 18th, 2024No Comments

There is a primary school in a remote area in the Rweru sector, Rwanda. It is Rwiminazi Primary School and Principal Elizabeth cannot help but smile these days. This is because the school finally has four more classrooms, six toilets, nurse’s office and teachers’ room thanks to HUMAN IN LOVE and Gyeonggi-do. The construction began in June 2017 and would be completed in December 2017.

Now 717 students are going to Rwiminazi Primary School. In the past, the school could accommodate just around 400 students, and Principal Elizabeth couldn’t turn away students who desperately wanted to go to school.

In the end, the school decided to run morning-evening classes. As a result, students are taking fewer classes than regular class while teachers are working overtime.

Building more school facilities was what we’ve wanted so long. Every time we had a meeting with the Ministry of Education, we strongly urged to build more facilities. But we were turned down because of budget constraints. HUMAN IN LOVE is our precious partner in that they help the Rweru sector which lacks national support.”

Now that we have more class rooms and facilities, not only students but teachers can focus more on their performance and enjoy more benefits.”

The Rwandan government has been working hard to achieve the goal of universal primary education, reaching the 96.8% of primary school registration in 2014 and 2015. However, the graduation rate has been decreasing from 75.6% in 2010 to 61.3% in 2014 due to the lack of parents’ awareness on education and the number of class rooms and poor education quality. Since 2016, HUMAN IN LOVE has been working on projects with Gyeonggi-do in order to improve the primary education environment in the Rweru sector. Furthermore, we’ve been making efforts to build primary schools, run capacity building programs for primary school teachers and young residents, establish a system to help primary school students study better, run adult literacy class and enhance parent’s awareness.

Rwanda is a country which boasts the power of positivity and harmony by overcoming the 1994 Rwandan genocide and regaining social stability. Please continue your support and interest for the children who are the hope and dreams of Rwanda.
