Grandma Sook-ja’s family will have a cozy winter

By 2014년 12월 09일August 16th, 2024No Comments

Do you remember Grandma Sook-ja (pseudonym) from the story shared online from September 30th, 2014 to October 24th, 2014?

Grandma Sook-ja turns 90 in the new year but lives in a single room house, which used to be an old mill, with Myung-hee (pseudonym, 69 years old, with mental illness), and Jin-woo (pseudonym, 47 years old). Because the house has so decayed, severe draft, wind, and rain leaking through the walls and ceiling are now a constant. While Fungi is all over the room, threatening the health of the family, rain pours down through the wrecked roof of the house. Many parts of this old house required repair, but the family’s health conditions did not allow them to manage it. Furthermore, the family’s refrigerator has succumbed to time, and its lack of operation only provides a greater inconvenience to their food storage and eating.

But thanks to the energetic efforts of many people, grandma Sook-ja’s house was refurbished on November 27th, and 28th, just before the start of the more severe winter weather. Walls and ceiling that once allowed the wind to pass and draft, now have insulation and neatly finished wallpaper.

Fungi infested wallpaper around the sink was replaced with new wallpaper and waterproof vinyl sheet to prevent future leaks.

Ripped floor vinyl was also replaced new.

Where previously the roof had been in such disrepair that rain readily poured into the house, now is flawlessly repaired and waterproofed.

Finally, grandma Sook-ja’s long time wish was granted with the donation of new refrigerator.

Grandma Sook-ja was very much grateful and expressed enormous appreciation throughout the entire renovation. To this day, she continues to convey thanks to all that came to her aid, as made evident when she is on the phone with HUMAN IN LOVE. Grandma Sook-ja has lived almost 90 years in Busan city. During the Korean War, she helped refugee children by providing clothes, shoes, and food. She has also taken care of Myung-hee and Jin-woo who once had nowhere to go, by accepting them as a family. For many years, she has been an exemplary example of giving, and it was an honor to return the favor to her. Many thanks to all of the supporters who generously helped grandma Sook-ja.
