HUMAN IN LOVE has donated approximately 500 Korean and English books to the National Library of Laos and Department of Korean Language, University of Laos (NUOL) on November 25th and December 5th of 2014.

HUMAN IN LOVE visited Laos in June, 2014 to deliver children’s books for the children of Laos. During this visit the extent of the severity of the shortage of books was realized. Discussions with the Laos Literary Men’s Association further revealed that a contributor to this shortage is a deficient publishing system in Laos. Although the rising popularity of the Korean language has contributed to the establishment of the Department of Korean Language at the University of Laos, in 2004, insufficient support has forced the department to operate without proper text books.

The considerable number of books received were donated by: Golden Brain Publishers, Changbi Publishers, Gimmyoung Publishers, Saramin Publishing Company, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Press Center. The HOPE IUM Lifelong Education Center provided 100 sets of ‘Hangul Arirang 1, 2’ for Korean language education of students in the Department of Korean Language at the NUOL.

The Chief of the National Library of Laos said, “We are thankful to HUMAN IN LOVE for providing us with great books. The donated books will be located in a convenient location in the library so that children, adolescents and adults of Laos can easily access them. While various and numerous organizations have contributed to bringing us generous assistance, the only unfortunate realization is that most of the help was provided as a singular event. However, HUMAN IN LOVE and its collaborative organizations have been continuously donating books to us since 2013 and we are grateful for that.”

The Dean of the Department of Korean Language at the University of Laos, Mr. Khaikham Sisomphou, also sent a letter of appreciation stating, “The textbooks provided by HUMAN IN LOVE will be remarkably useful for Korean language education. We are very thankful.” With the assistance of local newspapers reporting on this event, word of the donation has spread throughout the communities of Laos.
