Hello. I’m Seong, Hae-shin working in Rwanda and Burundi. In early Apr., Rwanda observes Genocide Memorial Day, so Rwandan students have two weeks of short holiday. During the period, HUMAN IN LOVE decided to provide our scholarship students with computer education, one of the lessons they longed for.

Computer education is part of Rwandan education policy. The Rwandan government eagerly desires to provide computer education to the students, as can be seen on Rwandan currency with the picture of students using computer.

The computer education started from Apr. 4 to 15, 2016, and the students learned basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel that can be used daily. Furthermore, they learned necessary computer skills which they can use when they are seeking jobs or preparing for college after graduation. Some performed well in class while others found the lessons quite difficult, but overall, the students were happy to receive the education they wanted to take. In fact, we have never seen the students this happy. One of the assignments of the computer class was to make their own email account, and all the students asked me to check my email since they will be contacting me.

On the last day of the computer education, the scholarship students, their parents and education officials gathered altogether and had a chance to talk to each other.
In particular, a teacher of a primary school who lent us the computer classroom free of charge said that the lesson was particularly meaningful since it realized one of the development plans of Rwanda. He said to the students, “All of you are well aware that not everyone can go to college, so I would like to ask you to utilize this opportunity wisely. If you perform Word and Excel well, everybody would like to hire you. So, participate in the computer education patiently.”
In addition, an education official of Rweru Sector also talked about the computer education as well as the uniform support by HUMAN IN LOVE which took place from 2015 to early 2016. The official said, “I’m very satisfied to see everybody working hard in line with Rwanda’s education development policy. As the principal mentioned, I hope all of you can use this opportunity to grow well in the future.” Also, he mentioned that some 200 primary school students were able to return to school thanks to three rounds of the school uniform delivery project (Mazane, Sharita and 르위미나지 Primary School) by HUMAN IN LOVE.
Rwanda provides nine years of education free of charge, including primary and secondary education. However, still many children are not able to attend schools. We were very pleased to hear that around 200 students came back to school, benefiting from our school uniform delivery campaign.

The education official also hinted to me while eating lunch that academic performance and motivation for studying of 32 HUMAN IN LOVE scholarship students in Rweru Sector are outstanding compared to other students. Perhaps our scholarship students are known to be good and passionate in their study.
Jean Pierr, one of our scholarship students who learned faster than other students, made slide images of the computer education of the past two weeks and showed them to the class.
[ MANIRAREBA Lajab who likes singing threw a surprise performance with a song he made on the last day of the class. ]
HUMAN IN LOVE sponsors! You always provide our scholarship students with the meaningful opportunity of learning, and I would like to thank you for your kindness. I will also do my best here to guide and help the students to grow well.
