On December 5, 2017, a big party was thrown at Rwiminazi Primary School which is located at the center of a rural area. The party was held to celebrate the opening of the school which has been finally built thanks to HUMAN IN LOVE, an international relief and development NGO, and Gyeonggi-do, one of the provinces in Korea.

The Village of Refugees and Returnees
HUMAN IN LOVE has been working at the Rweru sector of Rwanda, Africa. Poor refugees and the returnees who left their hometown a long time ago are living in the Rweru sector.

Now, Rwiminazi Primary School has 10 classrooms, accommodating 721 students and 14 teachers. In the past when the school could accommodate just around 400 students, Principal Elizabeth couldn’t turn away children who desperately wanted to go to school. So she decided to run morning and afternoon classes to teach more students. As a result, students are taking fewer classes than regular class while teachers are teaching more students getting the same salary.

Rwiminazi Students’ & Teachers’ Dream Came True Like A Miracle

Since our classrooms were packed with so many students, teachers had a hard time giving lectures while students studied in sweat.”

After hearing about such situation, HUMAN IN LOVE and Gyeonggi-do decided to build four classrooms, six toilets, nurse’s office and teachers’ room. The construction began in June and was completed on December 5,2017. From the 2018 semester, students can finally study in a pleasant condition.

To Make Sure Children Never Give Up On ‘Learning’
Rwanda provides free primary education for all children. However, due to lack of classrooms and parents’ awareness on education and the poor working environment of teachers, the quality of education is poor and the number of children graduating from primary school is decreasing every year. (Graduation rate: 75.6% (2011), 61.3% (2014))

With Gyeonggi-do, HUMAN IN LOVE has been working on various projects to build classrooms at primary schools, help teachers and young people enhance their performance, raise the awareness of parents on education and run adult literacy class since 2016. We sincerely appreciate HUMAN IN LOVE supporters and Gyeonggi-do for giving a miraculous gift to the students of Rwiminazi Primary School at the Rweru sector which had been lacking support for a long time.

HUMAN IN LOVE and Gyeonggi-do are running a mentoring program for primary school students at the Rweru sector. (2017.12.04)
