The Launch of the HUMAN IN LOVE Global Disaster Response Advisory Committee

Experts got together with an aim to carry out HUMAN IN LOVE’s effective humanitarian support(emergency relief) activities. On August 22, HUMAN IN LOVE launched the ‘HUMAN IN LOVE Global Disaster Response Advisory Committee’ composed of disaster response experts.

Professor Sun-joo KANG (Cheju Halla University) served as an advisor during HUMAN IN LOVE’s emergency relief activities in the Philippines when it was hit by typhoon Bopha. She is now appointed as the chairperson of the advisory committee, while Professor Myung-geun LEE (Yonsei University), Eun-ju LEE and Su-hyun PARK were designated as advisors. They will be in charge of offering advice to HUMAN IN LOVE regarding its international disaster response and humanitarian support activities.

In December 2012, chairperson Sun-joo KANG was sent to Davao City, one of the regions hardest struck by the typhoon, as a member of the HUMAN IN LOVE’s disaster relief team. She conducted on-site investigations and distributed relief goods.

Meanwhile, the three advisors have also been providing expert advice and helping HUMAN IN LOVE’s projects even before they were appointed as advisors. An expert in global disaster response, advisor Myung-geun LEE has been offering professional training on emergency relief for the HUMAN IN LOVE’s search and rescue corps and also advice on HUMAN IN LOVE’s emergency relief activities.

Advisor Eun-ju LEE used to be in charge of Laos when working at the Save the Children Australia. She has hosted the education on raising HUMAN IN LOVE’s disaster response capacity, and is continuously offering help to HUMAN IN LOVE’s Laos branch projects.

Meanwhile, Emergency medicine specialist Su-hyun PARK at Seoul Medical Center, who has been actively participating in emergency relief and medical volunteer activities in times of large-scale disasters overseas, also was appointed as an advisor at the launching ceremony.

During his service as a member of the HUMAN IN LOVE volunteer group in 2012, advisor Su-hyun PARK carried out education on health and medical treatment. She was also sent to the Philippines as a member of the HUMAN IN LOVE disaster recovery team in November 2013 when typhoon ‘Haiyan’ struck. She was the on-site coordinator for emergency rescue activities in the city of Ormoc, one of the most affected regions by the typhoon. With the advice of the ‘HUMAN IN LOVE Global Disaster Response Advisory Committee’, we will strive to provide an even more substantial and effective humanitarian support activity system.
